Daredevil fundraisers with a head for heights have the chance to be part of a groundbreaking new challenge event.
The St Edmundsbury Cathedral Abseil is being organised by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and taking place on 16th August.
For the first time ever, brave fundraisers will start 150 feet in the air and then descend 80 feet down the side of the iconic cathedral tower.
Just 50 places are available and each participant is encouraged to reach a fundraising target of £200, to support the vital care and support EACH provides.
Events Fundraiser Ellie Nevard said: “We’re proud and extremely excited to be organising this milestone event in Bury St Edmunds.
“It promises to be a truly unique experience, offering spectacular views, a rush of adrenaline and the chance to do something extra special to support EACH.
“Hopefully it proves popular, especially as it’s never been done before. Those who sign-up will be the first people to ever abseil down St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
“It’s also the 20th anniversary of the tower being built, which is a very lovely and happy coincidence.”
An early bird ticket can be bought until the end of April, costing £20, or an early bird ticket with an EACH t-shirt is available for £25.
Time slots are available every half hour, with three people taking on the daring descent at a time.
There is a grass square next to the tower where family and friends will have a perfect vantage point and be able to cheer on those taking part, holding up signs and messages of support that can be seen from above.
